Low Back Pain

In fact, over 31 million people have some form of lower back pain so if you are suffering, you are not alone. There are many different treatments our doctors can offer but until you come to the office for a free consultation, it is very hard to pinpoint the problem.
The Lumbar spine (Lower Back) is composed primarily of the sacrum and five vertebral bones. These bones are bigger and stronger than the bones of your neck and upper back, as they need to be able to support more weight. The purpose of these vertebral bones is to protect your spinal cord, bear the weight of the human frame, and help maintain the upright posture. These vertebra are separated by vertebral discs, which provide space between the vertebrae for the nerves to pass through, cushion the bones, and allow for movement. Between every two vertebra, there is a disc and there is a nerve that exits on each side of the spine, called a spinal nerve. These spinal nerves from the low back feed into the lower abdomen, low back, hips, legs and feet. Surrounding these bones, nerves and discs, are ligaments, tendons and muscles (aka Soft Tissues). These soft tissues help to provide support the the spine, and carry out specific movements, based on signals from the nerves.
As long as the tissues of the lumbar spine are healthy and aligned, the lower back and legs can operate properly. With an injury, poor posture or repetitive movements, the vertebra, and soft tissue around them can move out of alignment. When this happens, the muscles and nerves can become pinched, irritated or even permanently injured. Since the nerves can be affected, it can cause not only low back pain, stiffness or discomfort, but also pain or discomfort in the hips, legs, and feet. It can cause sciatica (leg pain), numbness, tingling, or weakness in the low back, hips, or legs. Often times, a disc can become bulged or herniated. When this happens, the disc can balloon out and severely entrap the nerve. If it isn’t taken care or, permanent weakness or dysfunction in the low back or legs can develop. These types of injuries can easily become chronic if they are not taken care of properly. The good news is that low back problems respond very well to Chiropractic care. Most studies show that chiropractic gets more favorable results that traditional medical care such as drugs, surgery or physical therapy.
