Over time, most people will likely experience some type of headache. The biggest problem with treating headaches is that they are so easily misdiagnosed. Additionally, there are many different types of headache pain and getting to the root cause can sometimes be a difficult process. The doctors at Back Works have been treating people in their Chicago chiropractic office with this condition and would love to have you come into the office and discuss your individual case. At that point, our doctors can offer their expertise on what treatments he thinks might be right for you.

You can experience several different types of headache pain: Tension headaches, Cervicogenic headaches, migraine headaches, cluster headaches, menstrual headaches, aneurisms, tumors, high blood pressure or even sinus or allergy related headaches…and the list goes on. If you have a new headache, it is always a red flag for something serious, and you should have it evaluated immediately.

Given that headaches are often misdiagnosed, the condition can go on for years before you are properly diagnosed and corrected. The most important issue is to get the headache evaluated, and to find out what types of things (foods, activities, and allergens) are triggering your headaches. Only then can you get to the root of the problem and correct the cause. It is awful tough to cure something if you don’t know the cause. You may be able to help mitigate the pain, but you will not get rid of the problem unless it is correctly diagnosed and treated. Therefore, if one treatment is not working, you should get another doctor’s perspective, or try a new procedure.

One of the most common types of headaches is the Cervicogenic headache. This headache occurs when the musculature, ligaments, nerves or joints of the upper neck (upper cervical spine) become misaligned, pinched or irritated. Cervicogenic headache can be caused by a number of things: poor posture or sleeping habits, an injury, or for no reason at all. Typically, there will be pain at the base of the skull, in the temples or occasionally in the front of your head. The pain can be sharp or dull, and it can be on one or both sides of your head. They can be very severe at times, and it can even mimic many other types of headaches such as migraines, or cluster headaches. A problem with the upper part of the neck can also cause other types of symptoms such as sinus problems, dizziness/loss of balance, or ringing in the ears.

Chiropractors get excellent results treating headaches. Some are even educated to prescribe certain supplements, diets, or vitamins that can help correct your problem. If you think you have a condition we can help you with, or have been treated by other doctors with little success, please call us for a free consultation. We would be glad to help.
