If you have elbow and wrist pain, it is usually as a result of a traumatic injury or a repetitive use type of injury. A traumatic type injury can include sports injuries, slip and fall injuries, or an accident in everyday life. When this happens, ligaments and muscles can be stretched or torn and the joint moves out of its normal position. Generally this will be accompanied by pain, swelling, dysfunction, and sometimes weakness. Sometimes these injuries can cause hidden fractures, as well as a sprain/strain. Therefore, it is important to have these injuries properly assessed and diagnosed by a specialist such as a chiropractor or orthopedist. Another type of injury, the repetitive use type of injury, is be caused by repetitive activity such as typing, gripping activity, tennis, or golf, etc. When these injuries occur, it puts stress on the ligaments and muscles around the joint, causing them to stretch or tear, and to swell. When this happens the joints do not articulate properly, and again, there is pain, swelling and dysfunction. If the nerve becomes impinged (pinched) then it can cause pain and weakness that can extend further out into the arm. If the problems are not addressed, then the dysfunction and weakness could become permanent.

Regardless of the cause, the goals are the same; to reduce the pain, to restore the alignment and movement of the joint, to reduce or eliminate scar tissue, and to strengthen the ligaments and muscles around the joint. This way, not only are the pain and dysfunction gone, but the joint is strong and stable. At Back Works Chiropractic, we keep all of these goals in mind when coming up with your treatment plan. That is why we get great results treating these types of conditions.
