Arm Pain, Numbness
If you have pain or numbness that extends into your arm, you have most likely pinched or injured a spinal nerve in your neck, or a group of nerves in your shoulder called the brachial plexus. This can cause pain and numbness in all, or more often specific parts of your arm. If you feel you might have a pinched or injured nerve in your neck, call our offices today for a free consultation. We will take the time to understand your issues and provide his expert advice on next steps.
Spinal nerves from the neck and upper back (C5 to T1) come together to form the Brachial Plexus, which extends under the clavicle and into the shoulder and arm. If any of these nerves become pinched or irritated, pain can result. Typically, this will cause neck or shoulder pain that radiates down the arm. However, in some instances, you will only feel arm pain. This can also be accompanied by numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms or hands Oftentimes, there is an underlying condition causing the problem, such as a subluxation (misalignment of a vertebral bone), pinched nerve, muscle spasm, herniated disc or spinal stenosis (narrowing of the space where the nerve exits the spine). While rest, anti-inflammatories and ice can help manage with the pain, they don’t do anything to correct your underlying condition. Not having some sort of treatment will generally cause the underlying problem to get slowly worse. Each time the pain comes back, it will be worse, and last a little longer, until your condition becomes permanent.
At Back Works Chiropractic, we have gotten excellent results treating these types of conditions. As Doctors of Chiropractic, we use chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and physical therapy not only to help manage the pain but also to treat the underlying condition.
